Beyond Good Works at the BO

Attended the Okanagan Institute presentation by Marla O’Brien and Dawn Wilkinson on the statistics and situation with Non Profits in the Okanagan.

Very well presented overview of the Non profit Sector and review of how many of the Societies are working with the Okanagan’s Time, Talents and Treasures.

Neat statistic 46% of revenue for non profits ins from goods and services sales, with only 12% from donations.

The group was challenged in supporting non profits in the Okanagan as there are a number of stats that suggest that an average of 72 hours per person per year begs the question, “Do we give enough?”

Some tough trends like demographic shifts, technological advances like social media, networks to work differently, blurring of profit and non profits.

Bottom line seemed to be a recent 20% frop in revenues but an increase in the need for services.
